Messi By The Numbers: The One Record He Still Needs To Break (And When He'll Break It)

Lionel Messi may well be the most prolific scoring machine in football history.

Across the span of his 10-year professional career, Messi has maintained a 0.75 goal per game average - scoring 434 goals in 577 total games. Along the way, he's been awarded almost every conceivable scoring record, from most goals scored in a calendar year (91), to most goals scored in La Liga period (253 when he broke the record), to most hat tricks in the UEFA Champions League (5).

This recent video from The Telegraph breaks down Messi's scoring achievements:

The one (substantial) record left for Messi to break is as Argentina's all-time leading scorer - and he's only 11 goals shy of making this happen. So, it's pretty much guaranteed at a rate of 0.75 goals per match that Messi will break this record by mid-April of 2015, based on his current schedule of play for FC Barcelona and the Argentina National Team.
