Liga MX Games Will Be Streamed Live On Facebook Starting Later This Month

Non-Spanish-speaking Liga MX fans will be thrilled to hear Univision is going to start live-streaming games in English on their Facebook page. The streams will only be available in the USA, and will begin with Saturday's Superclasico between Chivas Guadalajara and Club America.

Liga MX is one of the most popular leagues in the world, both in terms of attendance and TV ratings (it outdraws even the EPL in the United States).

From a release on Univision's website:

“Univision’s unparalleled soccer productions and coverage have always garnered great engagement from not only Spanish-speaking viewers, but English-speaking fans as well. Our Facebook partnership is an exciting opportunity for these fans to experience this great soccer in the language of their choice,” said Tonia O’Connor, chief commercial officer and president of Content Distribution, UCI. “TV options have evolved from broadcast to cable to SVOD. Now Facebook represents the next wave of TV and, given its scale, they are an ideal partner to distribute our Liga MX matches in English.”

As one of those aforementioned non-Spanish-speaking Liga MX fans (four years of high school Spanish did not get me nearly as close to fluency as I would have liked), I am very excited about this. I would like to hear English commentary because that's the easiest way to learn more about a league.

On the other hand, hopefully the commentary doesn't suck. I would rather have Spanish commentary that I only sort of understand than English commentary that I understand to be trash.

The real reason this is good news is Liga MX is one of the most entertaining sports leagues in the world and making it more accessible is always a good thing.
