From Belgian Club Back-Up To Nations League Hero, Ethan Horvath Has A New Club To Call Home

The USMNT’s hero of the Concacaf Nations League final against Mexico has a new club to call home. Ethan Horvath was officially announced as Nottingham Forest’s newest player on Tuesday. The Horvath transfer came after weeks of speculation of the Colorado-native going to Huddersfield.

Horvath was a free agent for a total of 12 days. His contract with Belgian side Club Brugge ended on July 1 and he joined Nottingham Forest on July 13 on a free transfer. Getting any valuable minutes in goal with Club Brugge proved difficult as Horvath had to compete with former Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet for the starting job.

Horvath only played four games in the 2020/21 season.

Unfortunately for Horvath and USMNT fans alike, the 26-year-old won’t be guaranteed the starting spot in goal for Nottingham Forest. The Championship side has relied on Congolese goalkeeper Brice Samba for the last two seasons. Samba was named the Championship Goalkeeper of the Year for the 2019/20 season.

In an interview with Forest the American goalkeeper said he was excited to have a rowdy new place to call home.

“It feels great to be here. Nottingham Forest is such a historic club. I really like the stadium and training ground and the people have been fantastic,” Horvath said. “It’s a new challenge for me. I’m hoping all my experience can help Forest.

“I’ve heard about the fans and the 30,000 crowds and that even when it’s not full, it’s loud.

“The shirt carries a lot of history and I’m proud to be part of that history.”

Forest finished 17th out of 24 in the Championship last season. The club will play five friendlies in the remainder of July before the new season begins on Aug. 8 against Coventry City.

While we’re here we may as well watch that penalty save one more time.
