Frank Lampard Now Favorite To Take Chelsea Job

It's been a weird year for Chelsea fans. After finishing third in the English Premier League and winning the Europa League, manager Maurizio Sarri has left the club to return to Italy. He will be coaching Juventus.

As that news is settling down, one rumor won't go away: Blues legend Frank Lampard is set to take over at Chelsea.

Soccer fans worldwide know Lampard as one of the best midfielders that ever played the game. Chelsea fans also remember him for his loyalty to the club, spending fourteen years at Stamford Bridge.

Since retiring, Lampard has taken a stab at managing. This past season, the Chelsea legend steered Derby County to a sixth-place finish in the English Championship but just missed out on promotion, losing 2-1 to Aston Villa in the promotion playoff final.

While Lampard might be a good fit due to his history with the club and his time with Chelsea loanees at Derby (which will play a large factor with the impending transfer ban), his inexperience managing might prove to be a problem. It's one thing to manage Derby County, but the high stakes of managing one of the biggest clubs in the world is a different monster.

All that being said, Chelsea has yet to approach Derby about bringing Lampard back to Stamford Bridge. We should expect to hear more in the coming days about Chelsea's next manager.
