Chucky Lozano Scores Twice In 4 Minutes Before He’s Stretchered Off With Scary Injury

Hirving “Chucky” Lozano had a great start to PSV Eindhoven’s 2-1 win over Groningen on Saturday. He had a finish he’ll want to forget — if he can even remember it at all.

Lozano was vital to helping PSV remain ahead of Ajax in the race for the Eredivisie standings. He scored two goals in the opening 20 minutes as the Boeren moved five points clear of Ajax, which plays rival Feyenoord in De Klassieker on Sunday.

The first goal arrived in the 15th minute as Steven Bergwijn made a magnificent run before laying the ball back for Lozano, who couldn’t help but score.

Four minutes later, Chucky made it 2-0 when he again found himself on the end of an inviting cross.

Groningen pulled one back in the 34th minute through Ludovit Reis. The match took another bad turn for PSV when Lozano took a nasty blow to the head going up for a ball just before halftime.

I don’t think there was any malicious intent — though you’re free to disagree with me — but it wasn’t a pretty hit. The medical staff took him off the pitch on a stretcher.

Head injuries are always scary, so we hope it’s nothing serious and Lozano can return to the pitch soon.

A long-term Chucky Lozano injury would be bad news for PSV, which has Ajax breathing down its neck. Lozano is the club’s second-leading goal scorer with 15 in all competitions, only trailing Luuk de Jong’s 19.

In other El Tri news, Érick Gutiérrez did not get into the match for PSV. Instead, Eindhoven gave debut to 16-year-old midfielder Mohammed Amine Ihattaren.
