Chelsea’s Third Goal Vs. Southampton Was The Most Insane Sequence Of Events Ever Seen

Chelsea momentarily sits at the top of the Premier League table after defeating Southampton 3-1 on Saturday. The victory wasn’t as straight forward as the final score suggests as the Blues found the go-ahead goal in the 84th minute.

Chelsea’s third goal was perhaps one of the most bat-shit crazy goals I’ve seen in a long time. FIFA 22 was just released, and this Ben Chilwell goal vs Southampton looks like it came right out a video game.

If I lost to someone on FIFA 22 because of a goal like this my controller would be thrown out of a window.

Chelsea Vs Southampton Highlights

Chilwell’s 89th minute insanity goal capped off an exciting match. Chelsea took the lead nine minutes into the game with 22-year-old defender Trevoh Chalobah scoring his second league goal this season.

Chelsea looked in control of the game and had two goals disallowed in the first half. One was called back for offside and the second goal from Timo Werner was denied after a lengthy VAR review for a foul in the buildup. Fans were less than pleased about the VAR call.

Southampton was given a lifeline in the second half with Chilwell committing a needless tackle in the penalty area. James Ward-Prowse stepped up and buried the penalty in the 61st minute.

The Southampton captain’s day quickly took a turn 15 minutes later when he had a harsh, late tackle on Jorginho. After another VAR review Ward-Prowse was shown a red card. This was his first red card since 2015.

The extra man swung momentum in Chelsea’s favor for the final chapter of the game and Werner finally got his goal to give his side the lead.

The victory sees Chelsea go to the top of the table for now pending the Liverpool vs. Manchester City game on Sunday.
