8 Years Ago Today, Drake Had His Greatest Night At Stamford Bridge

One of the most iconic friendships between icons in the football and music industry is Didier Drogba and Drake. The two superstars in their respective industries have had a long friendship and was best exemplified on April 4, 2012, when Drake watched Chelsea play at Stamford Bridge.

The Canadian rapper chose an exhilarating game to watch as Chelsea defeated Benfica 2-1 to go through to the Champions League semifinals to face Barcelona.

The Blues entered the game with a 1-0 aggregate lead. A penalty kick from Chelsea’s current manager Frank Lampard doubled the lead. Benfica scored in the 85th minute to make Drake and many more Chelsea fans quite nervous. Then in the 90th minute, a blistering shot from Chelsea’s Raul Meireles sealed the deal for the Blues.

Interestingly, Drogba only played a couple of minutes during the match. He was brought on as a substitute for Fernando Torres in the 88th minute. This probably explains how Drogba was able to appear so nicely in the interview with Drake after the game.

Aside from playing FIFA together, the two friends have had multiple other run-ins, including the time Drake scored on the Ivory Coast striker from the penalty spot.

Superstars that win trophies/Grammys together, stay together.
