Cristiano Ronaldo Is Looking For His First Away Goal In More Than Two Months

Cristiano Ronaldo has not scored a goal away from Estadio Santiago Bernabeu in over two months. His last goal in a road game was on November 29, 2015, when he scored the final goal in a Real Madrid 2-0 against Eibar in Ipurua.

Coincidentally, that was also Los Blancos' last win as a visitor until two weeks ago, when, thanks to a Luka Modric goal, Real Madrid got a 2-1 win at Granada.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s performance away from home has been disappointing this season. He has scored just seven goals in road games in La Liga ,and these were scored in just three separate games. He scored five against Espanyol, one against Celta and another against Eibar.

Ronaldo has added four goals away in the Champions League, to total 11 in the 2015/16 season so far. Eleven goals of 32 Real Madrid away goals represents 34 percent. Last season, 2014/15, his goals outside the Real Madrid stadium accounted for 45 percent of Real Madrid's goals (28 of 61).

Ronaldo is Real Madrid's top scorer with 32 goals so far this season; he has scored at least 30 goals in seven consecutive seasons.

Ronaldo has not been replaced in a game unless he has had a physical problem in the last three seasons. Recently, Zinedine Zidane said that Cristiano’s physical form corresponds to a player younger than Ronaldo's 31 years.

This week Ronaldo will have two challenges away from home. On Wednesday Real Madrid will visit Rome in the first knockout round round of the Champions League, while on Sunday Los Blancos will be in Malaga, where last season he could not score.

After these two games, the next Real Madrid road game will be on March 2 against Levante in Valencia, where last season he scored two goals.

There are myrad suspected reasons for Ronaldo's goal drought. For example, that he did not adapt to the playing Rafa Benitez’s style, and also his constant trips on weekdays to Morocco.

Now Benitez isn’t the Real Madrid head coach anymore, Real Madrid’s President Florentino Perez banned Ronaldo from leaving Madrid on days off and Cristiano’s performance against Athletic Bilbao in Madrid on last Saturday suggests that he is ready to end his goal drought outside the Bernabeu.
