Americans in Europe: Potential transfers for the 2024-25 season

As the transfer window heats up, several American players in Europe are poised for significant moves.

Some may be stepping back from elite clubs in the top leagues to seek more playing time and development opportunities, while others are eyeing a jump to bigger, more prestigious clubs.

Here's a look at the American players who might be switching clubs soon and what these moves could mean for their careers.

Weston McKennie is packing his bags at Juventus as we speak, with new manager Thiago Motta excluding the American from all preseason preparations, along with other players who aren't part of the Italian’s plans for the upcoming campaign.

McKennie has gathered interest from the Bundesliga, Premier League, Türkiye and the Serie A, with Fiorentina being the most interested this summer.

Giovanni Reyna - Borussia Dortmund

The young American is due for a transfer out of Borussia Dortmund, with a previous loan spell to Premier League’s Nottingham Forest proven to be disastrous.

There are no clear possible destinations for Reyna, although an apparent interest from Ligue 1’s Olympique Marseille remains open as long as the negotiation deal are in the French club’s financial reach.

Johnny Cardoso - Real Betis

Johnny is having a fantastic start to his six-month career in Europe so far, with the American becoming an immediate starter for Betis in his transfer out of Brazil’s Internacional last January.

There's no rush for Johnny’s camp to make the move out of Spain, but rumors of Betis’ urge to sell a player to fill their needs for the upcoming season and a supposed interest from AC Milan, could see the 21-year-old involved in a transfer this summer.

Matt Turner - Nottingham Forest

The American goalkeeper has not had the most consistent stint with Nottingham Forest in the Premier League, with the club going into the market this offseason and signing Carlos Miguel, who is expected to become the starting goalkeeper for next season.

Turner is, in effect, eyeing for a move out of England, with several clubs from the Bundesliga interested in the former Arsenal man.

Tanner Tessmann - Venezia

The 22-year-old made waves during his first season in the Serie B with Venezia, helping the club to the Serie A for the upcoming season and garnering interest from top clubs in the first-tier.

Tessmann is reportedly expected to finalize his deal with Serie A's Fiorentina before the start of the campaign, with both parties looking to have Tessmann at the club.

Griffin Yow - KVC Westerlo

Griffin Yow had a standout season with Belgian club KVC Westerlo in the Jupiler Pro League, scoring seven goals and providing seven assists in 29 appearances.

Although there are no strong rumors regarding a Yow transfer, the American has reportedly gained interest from top Belgian club R.S.C. Anderlecht.

Luca de la Torre - Celta Vigo

The American midfielder’s stint in Spain has been nothing short of a rollercoaster. Following the club’s constant struggles in the league table and the appointment of four managers in two seasons, De La Torre has not seen consistent minutes.

The 26-year-old hasn't been linked to any European clubs and has reportedly only gained interest from new MLS expansion club San Diego FC.
