Timo Werner’s Chelsea Curse Is Over As He Scores From 30 Yards Out In His RB Leipzig Return

Timo Werner has returned to RB Leipzig and only needed 36 minutes to find the back of the net. Leipzig tied FC Köln 2-2 on Saturday and it was Werner who scored the opening goal.

Werner completed his transfer back to Leipzig from Chelsea on Tuesday for around $30 million. Four days later he’s taking shots 30 yards away from goal.

Timo Werner Goal vs. Köln

That was some shambolic goalkeeping from Marvin Schwäbe, but Werner won’t care.

It appears whatever goal scoring curse placed upon the German forward at Stamford Bridge is gone. In his last season with Leipzig before joining Chelsea Werner was unstoppable scoring 34 goals across all competitions. In comparison he scored 23 goals during his two seasons at Chelsea.

  • 2019-20 Season With Leipzig: 45 appearances, 34 goals, 13 assists
  • 20-21 and 21-22 Seasons With Chelsea: 89 appearances, 23 goals, 21 assists

Will Werner rediscover his 2019-20 form and be a goal scoring machine? If so, then he and Christopher Nkunku will be one of the most exciting striker partnerships in Europe this season.

Nkunku, last season’s Bundesliga Player of the Year, scored Leipzig’s second goal.
