Neymar Tries His Goofy Stutter-Step Penalty And Fails Spectacularly As PSG Loses To Nantes

Paris Saint-Germain’s penalty kick woes continued Saturday during the team’s 3-1 loss to Nantes in Ligue 1. Lionel Messi saw his penalty kick against Real Madrid in the Champions League saved on Tuesday. Four days later Neymar has topped Messi’s penalty fail with one of his own. This Neymar penalty vs Nantes is about as dismal as they come.

Neymar Penalty vs Nantes

Ouch.

This isn’t the first time Neymar has missed a penalty like this. Last summer he had an almost identical penalty kick against Ecuador that we at The18 were sure to call out.

We also can’t ever forget this failed paneka penalty attempt from the Brazilian.

Neymar is a quality penalty taker if you look at the statistics. With the miss against Nantes being his latest penalty kick, Neymar has only failed to score 15 of the 78 penalties he’s taken in his career. Scoring 80% of your penalties isn’t too shabby. For reference, Messi has scored 77% of his 133 penalty kicks while Cristiano Ronaldo checks in at 83% out of 172 penalties.

Neymar will be wishing for Saturday’s spot kick back as the goal would have gotten PSG back into the game. A flurry of Nantes goals in the first half saw the league leaders down 3-0 at halftime.

Neymar and Messi combined for PSG’s sole goal of the game in the 47th minute and it looked like the comeback was on.

Missed opportunities are what plagued PSG on Saturday as Messi, Neymar and Kylian Mbappé all had at least one moment where they should have scored.

The defeat is only PSG’s second of the Ligue 1 season as the league leaders still have a 13-point gap on second place Marseille.
