Spain's High Court Says Neymar Should Stand Trial Over Transfer Saga

The Neymar Santos-to-Barcelona transfer saga has taken another turn as Spain's high court reportedly ruled that Neymar, his parents and Barcelona executives Sandro Rosell and Josep Maria Bartomeu (as well as the club itself) should stand trial for fraud and corruption.

From The Guardian:

The case stems from a complaint by a Brazilian investment group, DIS, which owned part of Neymar’s transfer rights and which alleges it received less money than it was entitled to.

The investigating magistrate, José de la Mata from Spain’s high court, said in a written ruling that the prosecution had 10 days to decide to go ahead or withdraw their claim – a formality that normally precedes the launch of a trial.

When Barcelona was slapped with a transfer ban a few years ago we knew things at the Camp Nou weren't entirely on the up-and-up, and this would seem to indicate things are even less on the up-and-up than we thought.

Here is a very good read from Bleacher Report on the ins and outs of the Neymar transfer, which has more ins and outs than maybe any transfer ever. There are so many extra parties and hangers-on that we still don' know about, and maybe will never know about, that we genuinely think this situation may never be resolved.

We certainly haven't seen the last of the Neymar transfer, especially if the Spanish government moves forward with a trial.
