Watford beat Arsenal 2-1 at the Emirates in the quarterfinals of the FA Cup thanks to this astonishing Adlene Guedioura goal vs Arsenal. If you have never heard of the phrase “thunderbastard” or seen one for yourself, you are about to see a quintessential one.
Let’s just get this over with. Arsenal didn’t deserve to win this game even though they created more than enough chances to do so. I don’t care what Arsene Wenger says in the post match press conference.
"Our long run in the FA Cup comes to an end in a very sad way because I didn't think we deserved to lose this game. Of course it is sad. But the FA cup is the FA Cup. You cannot guarantee that you win it."
"It's difficult to understand why we didn't score. But it was a typical cup game against a team that comes and fights and takes their chances, and us trying to score. There's not a lot more to say."
The loss brought Arsenal down to 1 win in their last 7 and 4 in their last 14. In that time they have gone from title challengers with a serious shot at a domestic double to, well, Arsenal.
Arsenal were bad. They were tepid. They have been doing this for quite some time and I am having a hard time writing about this without yawning.
Here are the other goals from the game.
First there was Ighalo’s goal to make it Arsenal 0-1 Watford.
Then there was Guedioura’s thunderbastard to make it 2-0, followed by a late Danny Welbeck goal that would prove to be as meaningly as it was sexy.
Now if you’ll excuse me, I need to go listen to some Frank Ocean and watch Real Madrid. That way I’ll at least be able to see some competent attacking while my tragic expectations are proven true in slow motion.
