USMNT’s Matt Turner might lose starting goalkeeping job after critical mistake… again

Nottingham Forest fell to Tottenham 2-0 on Friday and many fans are pointing the blame at United States goalkeeper Matt Turner after a massive error.

Turner had produced several important stops in the game to deny Spurs, however the only thing people will remember Friday’s game for was the gaffe in the 65th minute.

Matt Turner mistake vs Tottenham

This error was a double whammy for the American goalkeeper with the poor pass to lose possession and then letting the ball slip through his hands for Dejan Kulusevski’s shot.

Turner had recently regained the starting goalkeeper job for Nottingham Forest from Greek shot stopper Odysseas Vlachodimos on Dec. 9. The American goalkeeper was benched after a horrendous mistake vs. Liverpool on Oct. 29 when he got caught in no man’s land and allowed an easy goal.

Turner was benched for five-straight EPL games until Vlachodimos conceded five goals against Fulham on Dec. 6.

It wouldn’t be shocking to see Turner back on the bench for Nottingham Forest’s next game.

If Turner does get benched, then United States men’s national team fans will grow nervous with none of that team’s goalkeepers playing consistently.

Turner is in poor form, Zack Steffen is stuck at Manchester City healing from knee surgery and Ethan Horvath sits in Nottingham’s reserves.

It’s anyone’s guess as to who the starting USMNT goalkeeper will be for the 2024 Copa América.
