Watch: Memphis Depay stands on ball to showboat resulting in massive brawl

Dutch star Memphis Depay was the catalyst for a huge fight during Thursday’s Campeonato Paulista final after the Corinthians star stood on the ball in the final seconds of the game.

Corinthians led Palmeiras 1-0 on aggregate and needed to bleed a few more minutes off the clock to lift their first trophy in six years. In the 90th minute Depay had the ball in the corner and cheekily stood on top of it.

The Palmeiras players weren’t impressed with Depay’s showboating.

Thursday’s game didn’t see any goals, but it did see four red cards and 13 yellows in an incredibly intense contest. The raucous crowd inside Corinthians Arena only added to the wild atmosphere.

Depay fed off the energy from the home crowd and put together a highlight reel of skills during the 0-0 draw. The 31-year-old was enjoying himself out there.

Just four days prior Depay faced Spain in the UEFA Nations League quarterfinal where he played 101 minutes and scored in the 3-3 draw. Spain went on to win in the penalty shootout.
