Appearances can be deceiving. For instance, Phil Jones doesn’t look like anything special. When he plays the beautiful game, he often ostensibly looks  worried that something will go terribly wrong. I, myself, like to imagine that a soccer ball has seriously embarrassed him at so many points throughout his life, that he suffers from a crippling PTSD-like fear whenever the ball comes near. The chances of David de Gea ever appearing in a Manchester United shirt again look slimmer by the day. On Sunday the Spanish shot-stopper hobbled off the Old Trafford turf in the most inauspicious of circumstances, clutching his hamstring and muttering to a physio. Yet, while the man himself made no great gestures - no Falcao-esque tapping of the badge and wave to the crowd - those inside the Theatre of Dreams certainly reacted as though this was the last time they’d see de Gea between the Old Trafford posts.

Is Dejan Lovren the best center back in the EPL?

No.

Now that we have that out of the way, a study from the CIES Football Observatory says that, according to their metrics, Lovren is the 12th-best center back in the world, and best in the Premier League. 

Raheem Sterling is another rising talent from the youth academies of QPR and Liverpool. At the young age of 20 years old, he could be on his way to bigger clubs come the beginning of next season.

The England International has refused to sign a £100,000-per-week contract offered to him during the current season, and is expected to tell Brendan Rodgers he would like to leave Anfield. This could come as a shock to Liverpool fans, as Rodgers was the manager who broke Sterling out of his shell and gave him the opportunity to be a regular starting winger.

Once again this summer, some of Europe’s most famous clubs will be coming to the United States for a series of friendlies and the Guinness International Champions Cup. This year’s featured clubs in the International Champions Cup include Barcelona, Manchester United, Chelsea, and Paris Saint-Germain. But while these matches are just exhibitions, they cost regular or even post-season prices, so are these matches worth attending?

With the summer transfer window soon to be opened, all eyes are looking to the most financially fit clubs and desirable players to see who will draw the biggest price tag.

It was a strange sight in North London when Cesc Fabregas returned to the Emirates in late April wearing the hated blue of Chelsea. The indecision from the crowd was palpable throughout the match as to whether to cheer or boo their former-captain and hero. Aside from the lengthy debate concerning whether Arsene Wenger should stay or go, nothing has polarized the Arsenal faithful as much as the question of how to view Cesc Fabregas now that he is a Chelsea player.

Memphis Depay might as well have been riding a meteor for the past year. He entered last Summer as an unknown to most of the mainstream soccer world, and  made a name for himself at Brazil 2014 in a Dutch side that many thought would struggle to offer attacking options outside of the triumvirate of Wesley Sneijder, Arjen Robben, and Robin van Persie. He kept the momentum of his World Cup success going all season at his club side PSV Eindhoven, where he led the club and the league in scoring from his position on the wing, and was a major factor in winning the league title. 

If Arsenal is ever up for sale, they won't have to look far for a new owner. African businessman Aliko Dangote said if the club is ever on the market, he would buy it.

“I still hope, one day at the right price, that I’ll buy the team,” he said. “I might buy it, not at a ridiculous price but a price that the owners won’t want to resist. I know my strategy."
