Atlético Madrid and Diego Costa are parting ways announced the LaLiga club on Tuesday. Costa’s contract that was set to run until Summer 2021 was mutually cut short and the striker can now leave on a free transfer in the upcoming winter window. MADRID — Atletico Madrid striker Diego Costa looked forward to a fruitful partnership with new team mate Luis Suarez after his side thrashed Granada 6-1 on Sunday, making a cheeky reference to the Uruguayan's disciplinary problems over the years.

Costa opened the scoring with a headed goal and then came off the pitch in the second half to make way for Suarez, who quickly made his mark following his switch from Barcelona by scoring twice and providing an assist in the final 20 minutes.

The new LaLiga season begins on Friday with defending champion Barcelona heading north to play Athletic Bilbao at the San Mamés. Last year, Barça cantered to the title by an 11-point margin over second-place Atlético while Real Madrid finished 19 points back. However, the La Liga preview 2019/20 sees the challengers refreshed and reloaded with the likes of Eden Hazard and João Félix ready to come at the king.    

Mentally, Diego Costa isn’t entirely there. Look at the 26 yellow cards he received over his three-year Premier League stay for ample evidence of the striker’s propensity to be a mad lad. 

Valencia has confirmed that forward Michy Batshuayi will end his loan early, sending him back to London at the end of the month, which could prove crucial for the Blues’ title run this season.

While serving his first loan in Borussia Dortmund during the second half of 2017-18, the Belgian scored seven goals in just 10 Bundesliga games. He was then shipped to Spain to play for Valencia last August, but he could not find the same magic.
