They are their national team's’ biggest stars and Barcelona’s strongest weapons. But during the first two rounds of South American World Cup Qualifiers, none of them was able to play for their respective national teams. That raised the question: who in the Barcelona attack trident is the most important player for his national team, Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, or Neymar? Here we will look at three details: team’s performance with the player, the team’s performance without the player, and player performance.

Luis Suarez is just doing everything for Lionel Messi these days.

Messi, unable to play due to a knee injury, had Suarez shuttle him to and from the Barcelona training facility for rehab sessions. Suarez, being a good friend, happily obliged.

When I imagine what it must be like to play with Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, and Neymar, images of sandy beaches and brightly colored drinks with their very own umbrellas float into my head, but, you know, in a footballing sense. 

I think that their talents would make my job infinitely easier, allowing me to merely spray passes forward, because they are more likely than not to land at the feet of a world-class player, and have success. And, looking at Ivan Rakitic play, it is tempting to believe that this is the case. 

Luis Suarez knows where his bread is buttered.

He was signing autographs when a young boy came up and said he was the best. Suarez, fully aware that the player who is actually the best wasn't traveling with Barcelona for that particular trip, felt the need to correct the lad.

Suarez is good, for sure, but Messi is the best.

After their utter demolition of Getafe in La Liga yesterday, Barcelona forwards Lionel Messi, Neymar Jr., and Luis Suarez have eclipsed 100 goals in all competitions. A respectable return to say the least, and one that few would argue justifies the huge pile of cash required to assemble the trio, with Neymar and Luis Suarez costing a reported 138 million Euros combined.
