Five USMNT players who need a great Gold Cup to have a chance at making 2026 World Cup roster

The 2025 Concacaf Gold Cup will serve as a major opportunity for several United States men’s national team players to prove themselves to head coach Mauricio Pochettino.

Big stars will miss the tournament including Weston McKennie, Timothy Weah and Gio Reyna due to the Club World Cup. Christian Pulisic, Antonee Robinson and Yunus Musah will also skip the tournament due to rest.

This presents the chance for several fringe players to make a name for themselves and show why they should be considered for the 2026 World Cup roster.

USMNT will be tested against Asia’s best with September friendlies vs. Japan and South Korea

The U.S. men's national team scheduled two friendlies for early September to begin their warmup for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which they are co-hosting along with Canada and Mexico.

The USMNT will face South Korea on Sept. 6 at the New York Red Bulls' home stadium in Harrison, N.J. On Sept. 9, the Americans will play Japan at the home of the Columbus Crew.

2031 Women’s World Cup in United States will have 48 TEAMS

The women's World Cup will be expanded from 32 to 48 teams from the 2031 edition onwards after world soccer's governing body FIFA said its Council approved the proposal at a virtual meeting on Friday.

The 48-team World Cup will adopt a 12-group format, increasing the total number of matches from 64 to 104 - the same as the expanded men's World Cup in 2026 - and extending the tournament by one week.

Atlanta a likely host for 2031 Women’s World Cup hints FIFA president Gianni Infantino

FIFA President Gianni Infantino has hinted at Atlanta's potential as a host for the 2031 Women's World Cup as he brought the Club World Cup trophy to the city's Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Monday night.

Standing alongside Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens, Infantino praised the city's sporting credentials ahead of this summer's expanded Club World Cup tournament. "Atlanta has really become a soccer city," Infantino said.

USMNT to bring full strength roster to Gold Cup for first time in six years, per reports

OFFICIAL: The United States will host the 2031 Women’s World Cup

The United States will be the host nation for the 2031 Women's World Cup, FIFA president Gianni Infantino said on Thursday.

Infantino also announced that the 2035 global soccer competition will take place in the United Kingdom.

The U.S. submitted the only bid for 2031, while the joint bid from England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland was the only "valid" bid for 2035, Infantino told the UEFA Congress in Belgrade, Serbia.

FIFA president Gianni Infantino is building the hype around next year’s World Cup promising that the tournament will be equivalent to “104 Super Bowls” in a month.

The expanded 48-team tournament will be the biggest World Cup in history. In the previous 32-team editions there were a total of 64 games played. In 2026 there will be 104 different games played in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

Infantino appeared on “The Herd with Colin Cowherd” and explained how the viewership numbers of the World Cup will be that of “104 Super Bowls.”

USWNT set to host Canada on July 2 in Washington D.C. in friendly match

The top-ranked United States women's national soccer team will face long-time rivals Canada in Washington, D.C. for the Continental Clasico on July 2.

The Olympic champions have played Canada more than any other opponents and beat them in a penalty shootout in both of their previous two meetings last year, the CONCACAF W Gold Cup semi-final and the SheBelieves Cup championship match.

The meeting, the 67th between the two teams, will close out a three-match window for the United States, who are also playing Ireland in a pair of friendlies in late June.

FIFA announces that Club World Cup winner will receive $125 million

MANCHESTER — The winners of this year's 32-team Club World Cup to be held in the U.S. will earn up to $125 million, FIFA said on Wednesday.

World soccer's governing body had announced earlier this month a total prize pot of $1 billion for the June 14-July 13 event, significant in the current climate of financial regulation for clubs.
