The Athletic’s Tom Bogert has shared one of the craziest transfer stories in a long time. Major League Soccer reportedly denied a $13 million transfer between FC Dallas and Russian club Spartak Moscow for USMNT striker Jesús Ferreira.

It’s been reported that the 23-year-old striker wanted the move to play in Russia’s capital and FC Dallas were prepared to accept the offer from Spartak Moscow.

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) on Friday dismissed appeals filed by the Russian soccer federation and four Russian clubs against FIFA and UEFA's decision to ban them from all competition until further notice following the country's invasion of Ukraine.

A Russian representative was allowed to attend UEFA's Congress in Vienna on Wednesday despite the country's national teams and clubs being barred from competitions.

Europe's governing body UEFA and world soccer governing body FIFA suspended Russian clubs and national teams from their competitions in February until further notice after the invasion of Ukraine, which Moscow calls a "special military operation." Russia has been accused of committing war crimes in Ukraine. 

AMSTERDAM — Dutch prosecutors intend to press attempted murder charges against Spartak Moscow football player Quincy Promes, they said on Wednesday, in order to ensure his case proceeds as quickly as possible.

Promes was arrested in connection with a July 2020 stabbing in the Dutch town of Abcoude. It later emerged that the alleged victim was Promes's cousin and the incident took place in a fight after a family party. Promes has denied involvement.

PARIS — FIFA is opening a special transfer window for foreign players stranded in Russia because of the invasion of Ukraine, soccer's world governing body said on Monday.

EA Sports is following FIFA and UEFA’s lead in supporting Ukraine while also punishing Russia. The governing soccer bodies announced bans on the Russian national team and clubs earlier in the week. EA Sports has announced its plans to remove the national team and clubs from FIFA 22.

MOSCOW — Former Ukrainian international Yaroslav Rakitskiy has severed ties with Russian champions Zenit St Petersburg, the club said on Wednesday, as Russia continues its invasion of Ukraine.

The 32-year-old, who won 54 caps for Ukraine before retiring from international duty in 2019, asked Zenit to terminate his contract, which was set to expire in June.

Everton and Ukrainian defender Vitaliy Mykolenko didn’t hold anything back when he went after Zenit and Russian striker Artem Dzyuba over Instagram on Tuesday.
