The USWNT Looks To Be Ready To Reclaim Their Top Spot

It was reported that goalkeeper, Hope Solo, was eligible to be reinstated this past weekend after serving her 30-day suspension.

Solo was suspended last month after she became unruly with police when they pulled her husband, Jerramy Stevens, over for DUI.

Solo was indeed reinstated on Feb. 21 and will eligible to travel to the Algarve Cup in Portugal. The US is in a group with Norway, Switzerland, and Iceland.

The Algarve Cup is going to be a big test for the WNT. Which could be just what they need to show they are still a force to be reckoned with.

On Feb. 13, the US defeated England 1-0, their first victory of the year. With that and the possible return of their starting goalkeeper, it looks like the US is finally on the right track.

USSoccer.com reported that the US played well against England, and had many moments to be proud of. Especially the performance of forward Alex Morgan, who scored her 50th career goal and the only goal of the game.

Immediately following the WNT’s loss against France on Feb. 8, Kentucky women’s soccer coach Jon Lipsitz, discussed how the WNT can move forward and win from here on out.

Lipsitz said they key to victory is to “play to their strengths,” which include “ridiculous pace and ability to score goals up top, great center backs, and the team’s much talked about mentality.”

He also said that the their main goal needs to be to win and nothing else.

The team has a decent amount of time to prepare for their matchup against Norway in the Algarve Cup, which does not take place until March 4.

I believe if Hope Solo is reinstated and the WNT does indeed play to their strengths, they will achieve the ultimate comeback.
