Canada’s St. Clair attempts to hide Uruguay keeper’s penalty 'cheat sheet' during shootout

Well, someone had to try it.

During the 2024 Copa America’s third place match between Canada and Uruguay this Saturday, The Maples’ goalkeeper Dayne St. Clair was given a booking for doing the unprecedented during a penalty shoot-out.

Canada’s Dayne St. Claire reads and hides Uruguay goalkeeper’s penalty cheat sheet

In a thrilling 2-2 that saw the national teams take their match into a penalty shootout after 90 minutes, Canadian goalkeeper Dayne St. Clair was shown a yellow card for taking Uruguay goalkeeper Sergio Rochet’s water bottle and towel, containing a ‘cheat sheet’ for Canada’s penalty takers.

Before the third penalty take of the shootout, Rochet and the referees ran to St. Clair following a series of whistles, with the goalkeeper appearing to have read and hid the Uruguay keeper’s notes.

A Uruguay national team staff member looked to have stopped and noticed St. Clair taking Rochet's belongings, giving the water bottle and towel back to Rochet after the Canadian keeper was shown the yellow.

Pure shithousery from St. Clair.

Sheets containing a list of opposing team’s penalty takers (and their preferred placement of the shot) has become increasingly popular in recent years, with the latest being England’s Jordan Pickford who went viral this summer after using notes to send England to the Euro 2024 semifinals after saving Manuel Akanji’s penalty in the shootout.

Like Pickford, Uruguay’s Rochet would go on to to save the only penalty of the shootout, with Canada sealing their loss after captain Alphonso Davies failed to convert his penalty and Uruguay claiming third place.
