Guingamp Striker Nathaël Julan Dies At 23

Nathaël Julan, a 23-year-old striker for Guingamp, was killed in a car crash on Friday.

The French club confirmed the death, issuing the following statement:

“En Avant Guingamp is in mourning. The club had the immense pain of learning this afternoon, the accidental death of its player Nathael Julan. On this tragic day, all the members of the club join together to send their sad condolences to Nathael’s family.”

Nathaël Julan was reportedly driving home from training in Pordic, a town near Saint-Brieuc in France, when authorities were alerted to a car going off the road. Julan was driving the vehicle, but no reason has been made public as for the cause of the crash.

Guingamp canceled a friendly scheduled for Saturday against Concarneau.

Julan joined Guingamp, then a Ligue 1 club, in 2018, though he spent some time on loan with Valenciennes in 2019. His last appearance for the club, which was relegated to Ligue 2 after the 2018-19 season, came on July 26 in a 3-3 draw with Grenoble.

The 6-5 Frenchman started his career at Le Havre, where he was briefly coached by former USMNT manager Michael Bradley.
