Ajax In Talks To Sign Jorge Sánchez From Club América

Jorge Sánchez might be on his way to the Eredivisie, and we’re not surprised at all.

Will we see Jorge Sánchez reunite with Edson?

The Mexican has become the latest target for Ajax heading into the 2022-23 season, and, according to Gerjan Hamstelaar and Fabrizio Romano, they would be looking to snatch the right back for around $5.1 million.

The Eredivisie champions are not looking to break the bank to fill their right back position, and they believe Sánchez, at $5.1 million, is the perfect pickup.

However, Liga MX clubs will not typically let go of their Mexican talent at such a low fee.

In 2019, Edson Álvarez was sold by América to Ajax for around $17 million — an appropriate comparison considering Álvarez was also a starter for Las Águilas and El Tri.

Sánchez is 24 years old and has a contract with América until 2025, and if he has aspirations of taking his career to the next level, right now would be the perfect time to do so.

Fortunately for Sánchez, América has no problem in negotiating with clubs from Europe, but it has to come with a price. In recent years, the club has sold the likes of Guido Rodríguez (Real Betis, $4 million for 70%), Agustín Marchesín (Porto, $7.7 million), Mateus Uribe (Porto, $9.5 million), Edson Álvarez (Ajax, $17 million) and Diego Lainez (Real Betis, $14 million).

Is this the right move heading into the World Cup?

Jorge Sánchez definitely has the qualities to thrive in a team like Ajax, and a transfer to the club would be phenomenal heading into the 2022 World Cup. Although it wouldn’t be ideal for the full back to bargain with playing time ahead of Qatar, the transfer could very well solidify his starting spot and call-up for Gerardo Martino’s final list.

But if Ajax’s interest is serious, they would need to place more millions on the table to bring Sánchez to Amsterdam.
