Marouane Fellaini Released From Hospital After Recovering From Coronavirus

Former Manchester United midfielder Marouane Fellaini has been discharged from a Chinese hospital after recovering from the coronavirus. Fellaini now plays in the Chinese Super League for Shandong Luneng and had tested positive three weeks before being discharged.

Fellaini thanked the medical team and all those who aided his recovery and will now enter a two-week quarantine as he continues to be monitored.

The CSL could resume at the earliest in late-April or May. Prior to Fellaini testing positive, the CSL initially planned to resume in mid-April. Clubs in China had already returned to training at the end of March and hoped to start the 2020 season soon.

The season was originally planned to start on Feb. 22 but was postponed indefinitely after the outbreak. The CSL could become a model for other leagues that wish to resume. Aside from countries still playing like Belarus and Tajikistan, China is likely to be the first country to resume its sports leagues.

China has started easing restrictions around the country and a return of the CSL might not be too far away. Key decisions still need to be made, such as if fans will be allowed in the stadiums and how testing of players will be done to ensure their safety.
