Bruce Arena Is Bringing In The Big Guns For The Gold Cup Knockout Stage

It is now time to take the CONCACAF Gold Cup seriously. A Gold Cup rule allows managers to make up to six changes between the group and knockout stages, and USMNT manager Bruce Arena is bringing in his all-time leading goalscorer, his number one goalkeeper, his captain, his top striker and Darlington Nagbe, who's probably the best player of the bunch.

From USSoccer.com:

Goalkeepers Tim Howard and Jesse Gonzalez, midfielders Michael Bradley and Darlington Nagbe and forwards Jozy Altidore and Clint Dempsey join the roster. The six players replace goalkeepers Brad Guzan and Sean Johnson, midfielders Alejandro Bedoya, Cristian Roldan and Kelyn Rowe, and forward Dom Dwyer.

Arena's other call-up, FC Dallas goalkeeperJesse Gonzalez, recently competed a switch from Mexico to the USMNT, and the 22-year-old is the odds-on favorite to be the next great USMNT goalkeeper.

With Dempsey's inclusion, the Seattle Sounders forward has a chance to become the USMNT's lone all-time leading goalscorer. He is currently tied with Landon Donovan.

The USMNT will face the third-place team from either Group A or Group C in the quarterfinals on Wednesday.
