Arsenal Win, Build Momentum For FA Cup Final

Arsenal won their second straight match Sunday, comfortably beating West Bromwich 1-0. With a Champions League spot for next year already locked up, Arsenal will look to finish the season strong and build momentum for the May 17th FA Cup final against Hull City.

The match really wasn’t a struggle for Arsenal. Considering West Brom was fighting for their Premier League lives, we thought we would have seen more aggressive play from the Baggies, but a Norwich draw with Chelsea ended those fears.

Arsenal opened the scoring early in the 14th minute. Santi Cazorla’s corner found the head of Olivier Giroud who buried the goal as he was being draped by a defender.

It was all they would need in the contest. After the game, Arsenal had their traditional appreciation lap around the stadium to mark the club’s final home game.

However, a slight cloud of concern hung over the entire, uplifting event. Bacary Sagna, whose contract has expired, is likely to leave Arsenal this summer. The Frenchman led his team around the pitch as supporters kept chanting, “We want you to stay,” just as they did throughout the match.

Arsene Wenger also has a new contract proposal that hasn’t been locked down in the past nine months, but the head man assured Gunners fans everywhere that he would be back next season despite people thinking he has doubts about the Club's future.

“If I had moments of doubt, they would have been a few years ago when I had to say ‘no’ to many offers,” Wegner said post-match. “I committed to this club under a lot of pressure. My word is my word and I’m from an ancestral period where you don’t need a pen to commit.”

On the other hand, West Brom manager Pepe Mel did not give Baggie fans much hope for his return next season. Mel said he would discuss his future after the team's last home game against Stoke City and added, “West Brom has a lot of work to do,” in regard to the number of players who will be out of contract this summer.
