Are Arsenal About To Sign One Of The EPL's Breakout Stars?

Arsenal had a season to remember.

They finished runners-up in the 2015-16 Premier League, but fans were not shy in celebrating their traditional St Totteringham's Day as the Gunners managed to pass Tottenham in the final match of the season.

They could’ve even ended up in the top spot if it wasn’t for the surprise of the century as Leicester City took home the trophy. Now, Arsene Wenger and his crew have reportedly already made the first move in an apparent attempt a man who proved to be the difference-maker last season for Leicester.

According to a report from The Guardian, Arsenal have triggered the £20 million release clause in Jamie Vardy’s contract.

Now the decision of staying or going will be entirely up to Vardy, who is currently with the England National Team at Euro 2016 in France.

Should he decide to go with Arsenal, Vardy will be a great option for Wenger. On one side he could use the strong Olivier Giroud to make the most of crosses and Arsenal’s speed in the wings. Or, he could have Vardy in the middle spearheading what could turn out to be the fastest team anybody has ever seen.

The Gunners will still have to convince Vardy to leave King Power Stadium. The striker has already made clear his wish to stay with the club he helped lead to glory. It wouldn’t be any surprise either if Leicester decided to offer Vardy a more generous contract in order to keep him for the Champions League.

The Twitter-sphere has also been booming with this latest spin in the 29-year-old's saga. A lot of the tweets, however, aren’t much congratulatory as fans remember a racism scandal Vardy was involved in last year and how that could play out if he joined a squad as ethnically diverse as Arsenal’s. He already apologized for the incident, but fans rarely forget about these things.

In the end, the decision will be Vardy’s alone, and let’s not forget that, depending on how he performs for England in France, the list of suitors can grow exponentially.
