Donnarumma Explains His Cold Reaction To Italy's Shootout Win: "I Didn't Realize We Had Won!"

That calm walk after having stopped one of the most important penalties in the history of Italian soccer wasn’t a show: Gianluigi Donnarumma hadn’t realized that he’d just been crowned European champion. Speaking to Sky Sports Italia, Donnarumma said, “I didn't celebrate on the penalty because I didn't realize we had won."  

"I hadn't understood anything, I was already down when Jorginho missed, I thought we had lost. After the stoppage, I walked off and checked that the VAR gave the go-ahead to continue. Then I saw my teammates running towards me and I realized everything," Donnarumma said.

The Italian goalkeeper won the European Championship and was also named Player of the Tournament. He is still ambitious and wants to achieve much more. He is only 22 years old and has a long career ahead of him, "I still have to achieve everything, that has always been my strong point," added Donnarumma.
