Liverpool's Asisat Oshoala Named BBC World Women's Footballer Of The Year

Asisat Oshoala, a 20-year-old forward for Liverpool and the Nigerian Women's National Team, has been named the first-ever Women's World Player of the Year by the BBC.

The award, decided by a fan vote, is the first of this type to be hosted by a global broadcaster.

Oshoala beat out Brazil's Marta, Germany's Nadine Kessler and Scotland's Kim Little in the voting.

In January, Oshoala signed with Liverpool, becoming the first African woman in the Women's Super League. She won both the Golden Boot and Golden Ball at the U-20 World Cup last year, scoring seven goals in six games. She also plays for the Nigerian Senior National Team, which she helped to qualify for this summer's World Cup.
