The Old Firm Derby Did Not Disappoint

The first Old Firm Derby of 2019 was fiery and passionate as ever. Rangers travelled to Celtic Park with hopes of catching up to its hated rivals in the SPL title race on Sunday. The match did not disappoint. A total of six cards came out of the ref’s pocket, two of them red.

Odsonne Edouard was played through on goal by James Forrest and slotted home the opening goal 27 minutes into the first half. Celtic was rolling, and frustration began to set in for Rangers, as Alfredo Morelos received his fifth red card of the season for an elbow on Celtic captain Scott Brown, more on him later.

The second half was even more frantic than the first. Every ball was hotly challenged and fouls were plenty. Rangers went down to ten men from Morelos’ elbow and needed some inspiration. Step up, Liverpool loanee Ryan Kent, who went on a fantastic run and finished the move right in front of the travelling Rangers fans.

Celtic fought back after Tom Rogic and Jeremy Toljan came on, and eventually found its second goal of the match and the winner in the 86th minute through James Forrest.

The second Celtic goal seemed to do a number on the Rangers players. Scott Brown did what does best and antagonised the Rangers players for most of the match. In the 88th minute, Ryan Kent seemed to have had his fill of Brown and looked to have either pushed or punched Brown, forcing him to the ground. The referee chose not to penalize either player.

The final whistle blew, and Celtic is now 13 points ahead of second place Rangers. What a game it was.
