Relegated Stars On The Move: James McClean Offers Himself To Celtic

Supporters of Celtic hardly needed another reason to love James McClean.

The Republic of Ireland midfielder, and Derry native, has made no secret of his lifelong love for the Hoops and his desire to one day play for Brendan Rodgers at the club of his boyhood heroes.

And now, with his current club West Bromwich Albion relegated from the Premier League, there is talk that a dream transfer — for McClean as well as Celtic supporters — may be in the offing this summer.

In fact, a recent interview with the Irishman on Celtic TV, the Glasgow club’s online channel, has only stoked the flames. McClean more than left the door open for a possible move to Celtic Park just after his Republic of Ireland side faced the Hoops in Celtic captain Scott Brown’s testimonial match.

And, it’s footage captured prior to the Brown testimonial that has supporters buzzing. In it, McClean is seen singing the Celtic (and Liverpool) anthem, “You’ll Never Walk Alone.”

Perhaps the only issue preventing McClean from signing for Celtic is finances. English clubs have far more money at their disposal than the Scottish champions, making a possible transfer, at least on the surface, unlikely.

But Celtic supporters — and McClean — can dream, can’t they?
