As the richest, most-watched league in the world, the English Premier League is home to some of the most talented footballers on the planet. But who are the Premier League best players in 2021-2022?

With more money and more prestige than any other league in the world, the Premier League is able to pay for many of the best footballers to have ever played the game, bringing in talent from across the globe. To be the best in the Premier League means you are one of the best in the world.

The 2021-2022 Premier League campaign is no different. With the addition of stars like Cristiano Ronaldo, Romelu Lukaku and Jadon Sancho, the competition has only gotten stiffer.

The question is, how do you determine the Premier League best players for a given season?

The answer is an algorithm and a 10-point scale, where 10 is a perfect score and 0 is a nightmare. Players are rated each match for things like successful dribbles, key passes, tackles, aerial duels and saves. The average professional player falls around 6.5 and anything above 8.0 is quite good.

These statistics allow us to rate players based on performance beyond simply goals or assists, previously the primary way to judge a footballer. Average them out through the season and you can determine the Premier League best players for a given campaign.

The 2021-2022 Premier League best players will include the top strikers like Cristiano Ronaldo, who rejoined Manchester United for the first time since 2009, but also defenders like Trent Alexander-Arnold, whose worth is valued in both defensive ability and initiating attacks.

The player ratings also reward consistency. If a striker goes scoreless for a couple of matches, he can still pad his stats with a hat trick the next game. But if he’s rated below 4.0 for a couple of matches, it will be difficult to rebuild his player rating with one good performance.
