Nepotist? Me?? Carlos Tevez Gets His First Job As Head Coach And Adds Three Brothers To His Staff

After a teary retirement announcement on TV a few weeks ago, Carlos Tevez got his first job as head coach. Starting this Tuesday, el Apache will manage Rosario Central in the Argentinian first division.

The club made the news official Tuesday, June 21, but the reports linking the former player to Los Canallas were already out last Friday. Tevez was also seen in the stands of the Jose Almafitani Stadium on Monday night, watching Rosario Central's 2-0 defeat against Vélez Sarsfield.

Tevez's first day as a manager will include a lunch meeting with his new players, an afternoon training session and his first press conference as Rosario Central boss.

Rosario Central New Manager

The appointment of Tevez in the job hasn't come without controversy. Members of the opposition to the current club's board have complained about three main things:

  • Tevez's qualifications as a manager
  • Links with agent Christian Bragarnik
  • The presence of Tevez's three brothers on the staff

Recently, Tevez met with several technical staff teams in Europe to gather knowledge and experience. However, some voices are pointing out he has not completed his managerial courses in Argentina, which bring us a very peculiar rumor: in order to sit on the bench, Tevez will have to sign the match reports as "waterboy" while his assistant Carlos Retegui – a man that comes from the field hockey world – will be the unofficial-official team's coach.

Bragarnik? The man is one of the most powerful agents in South America. He has been building a soccer empire, managing players and coaches around a network that includes teams in Argentina, Mexico and Spain. Always under a mysterious image and a system of transactions that raises eyebrows among his haters.

The agent was lurking Rosario Central, promising help with new signings only if Tevez was chosen as a coach. And now the supporters worry that the team – a social club – could become a private company.

Lastly, the nepotism subject. Tevez's staff members include several professionals in the industry but also his three brothers: Diego, Ariel and Miguel, who nobody really knows what they are doing there.

We can imagine Tevez is going to answer – or avoid – all of those three questions in the press conference scheduled for Tuesday, June 21, at 6:30 p.m. ET.
