Y’all remember Terrence Boyd?
At the start of the decade, Boyd, a German-born striker with an American father, was part of the influx of German-Americans brought into the fold of the USMNT under then-coach Jürgen Klinsmann.
Terrence Boyd, 28, made 14 appearances for the senior national team. Though he never scored for the senior team, Boyd provided the back-heel pass to set up the winner in the USMNT’s first-ever victory at the Azteca in 2012. Despite being involved in the qualifying campaign, Boyd was left off the 2014 World Cup roster and hasn’t appeared for the national team since 2016.
Boyd, born in Bremen, has spent most of his career in Germany; he owns one of the most-expensive transfer fees ever for an American when he joined RB Leipzig in 2014. Boyd joined Toronto FC earlier this year as an immediate replacement for Sebastian Giovinco. After 13 appearances without scoring, he returned to Germany, joining third-division side Hallescher FC after a mutual parting of ways with the Reds.
Since then, he’s been on fire.
Terrence Boyd has nine goals and five assists in 14 3. Liga appearances this season — none bigger than the incredible volleyed winner he scored in the 89th minute against MSV Duisburg on Saturday.
Late in a scoreless match, Boyd controlled a headed pass to him and before the ball hit the ground unleashed a dipping volley from 40 yards that left keeper Leo Weinkauf no chance.

Terrence Boyd may never work his way back into the USMNT fold. But at 28, it’s nice to see he’s found a place to make a positive impact for his team, which jumped into second place with the win.
