Alex Morgan’s Sweet Volley Keeps Canada’s USWNT Jinx Alive And Well

The Canadian women’s program is undoubtedly on the rise, but their hex against the USWNT remains an unsolvable issue dating back to their last victory against their southern neighbors in 2001. On Thursday night in Vancouver they had their chances, but the United States held on for a 1-1 draw after Alex Morgan’s sweetly struck volley was canceled out by Adriana Leon.

It was Morgan’s sixth goal of 2017 and 79th international strike overall, a fine remedy to an otherwise forgettable month for the American legend.

The U.S. is now 47-3-7 all-time against Canada, an incredible mark that USWNT goalkeeper Alyssa Naeher did well to preserve. In the end, it was still an impressive result for Canada, denying the States their seventh consecutive victory in front of a sellout crowd of 28,017 at BC Place.

The two rivals will meet again on Sunday in San Jose, California in what will be the final game of the calendar year for the U.S.
