United States women’s national team fans now have an official date and answer to the question of when will Emma Hayes start coaching.
U.S. Soccer announced on Tuesday the USWNT will host South Korea in June for a pair of friendlies ahead of the 2024 Olympics. The first game will be on June 1 in Commerce City, Colorado, and the next game will be on June 4 in St. Paul, Minnesota.

USWNT will face South Korea in two friendlies on June 1 in Colorado and June 4 in Minnesota.

Hayes is finishing the 2023-24 season with Chelsea and could have a short turn around if her side reach the UEFA Women’s Champions League final on May 25. She'd coach her first USWNT game just seven days later if Chelsea make the final.
Interim USWNT head coach Twila Kilgore will join Hayes’ coaching staff this summer as an assistant and said the arrival of the Chelsea boss is highly anticipated.
“It will be exciting for everyone to have Emma on board for the June games,” Kilgore said in a statement. “We need as many quality games as we can get heading into the Olympics and Korea Republic will provide good tests.
“While we will be watching every game our players play in their club environments over the next three months, the matches in Colorado and Minnesota are the final international matches before the Olympic Team is chosen, so they will carry that extra edge.”
Fans are eagerly awaiting the arrival of Hayes who is widely considered the best women’s coach in the world. The 47-year-old English manager has created one of the best success stories in the sport as she transformed Chelsea into a women’s soccer powerhouse since her arrival at the club in 2012.
FIFA recognized her as the best women’s coach in the world in 2021, she’s seeking her seventh FA Women’s Super League title with Chelsea this season and her first Champions League title after reaching the final in 2021.
U.S. Soccer clearly acknowledge her talents as she'll become the highest paid women's head coach in the world when she joins the USWNT.
She’ll take over a USWNT side in a transitional phase and desperate to bounce back from the Round of 16 exit at the 2023 Women’s World Cup.
Hayes won’t have a relaxed first couple months with the USWNT as her first major order of business will be selecting the 18-woman roster for the 2024 Olympics. A competition the USWNT haven’t won in 12 years.
Hayes will have four friendlies, including the two against South Korea, before the USWNT head to Paris for the Olympics.
The USWNT have played South Korea 15 times, winning 11 and drawing four. The Asian side have never qualified for the Olympics before and failed to do so for 2024. In the 2023 Women’s World Cup South Korea finished bottom of their group drawing one game and losing two.
