I Guessed 80% Of Berhalter’s January WCQ Roster Correct; These Five Players I Missed Need To Impress

USMNT head coach Gregg Berhalter released the latest national-team roster that has, as always, caused controversy. Before we get into the roster, let’s see who Berhalter thinks has what it takes to qualify the USMNT for Qatar.

Two weeks earlier I made a prediction as to which players would be selected. I made a 26-man roster prediction, so I give myself a little bit of an excuse for missing several players. First, here are the four players from my roster prediction that didn’t make Berhalter’s list.

My Failed Picks

Tim Ream

Ream was my dark horse pick. It didn’t happen.

Joe Scally

I guess consistent starts for a top Bundesliga club isn’t good enough??

Sam Vines

I was split between Vines and and Reggie Cannon. I picked incorrectly.

Gianluca Busio

It’s rumored that Busio is one of the players at Venezia who has caught Covid amid an outbreak at the club.

The Picks I Missed

Gabriel Slonina

How was I supposed to know Berhlater would bring four goalkeepers?

Reggie Cannon

I guessed Vines. Oops.

Brooks Lennon

This pick surprised me. In my opinion I find Scally as a more favorable pick. My only guess is Lennon highly impressed in the Arizona camp.

Luca de la Torre

This is pure speculation with no facts to back it from me. My guess is Busio was the first pick but was left out due to Covid and the man from Heracles was brought in to replace him.

Cristian Roldan

His stat of 30 caps and zero goals speaks for itself. Roldan’s inclusion wasn’t on my or many fans’ radar.

Jesús Ferreira

I figured Berhalter would only bring two strikers — Ricardo Pepi and Gyasi Zardes — so this miss is on me for not thinking of three strikers. I’m sure Jordan Pefok is disappointed somewhere.

USMNT Fans Reaction To Roster

The USMNT will play three games in the upcoming window.
