Every so often a commercial comes along that makes you really stop and watch - sometimes several times in a row.
This latest effort from Soccer.com falls into this category. Directed by Saleem Reshamwala of KidEthnic, and featuring real soccer players, the commercial uses a technique known as "stop motion pixelation" (in essence, stringing together a series of still photographs to create the illusion of movement) to visually dazzle the viewer with a colorful montage of soccer scenes.
In this instance, cameras are mounted from the ceiling and capture scenes that unfold on a canvas below. In describing the painstaking process used to create the visual effects in the commercial, Reshamwala says he's, "moving [the players] in actual soccer ways, just very slow and horizontally." He adds, "Sometimes you'll shoot for an hour just to get one second of footage. But it let's you do all these crazy, creative things."
It is indeed crazy and creative, and well worth a watch. Check out the behind the scenes video first, and then watch the final result. It's worth 5 minutes of your day.
