Gio Reyna, 17, To Receive First USMNT Call-Up

Giovanni Reyna, the next American superstar, is set to make his debut in the Red, White and Blue. Gregg Berhalter confirmed that Gio Reyna will make his USMNT debut in March for friendlies against the Netherlands and Wales.

The son of former USMNT captain Claudio Reyna has been making all the headlines for U.S. soccer in 2020 so far. The question of what nationality he would choose was asked around. Reyna had England, Portugal and Argentina as his other options.

He scored an absolute screamer against Werder Bremen for his first goal with Borussia Dortmund in early February.

Not too long after that he made his Champions League debut and became the youngest American to appear and record an assist in a Champions League match.

It has been quite the year for the youngster, and 2020 is only two months old. On March 26, Reyna could help the USMNT raise the greatest unofficial world championship title against the Netherlands.

Reyna will be 17 years and 134 days old when the U.S. plays the Netherlands. If Reyna were to play in the game, he would become the third youngest player to make an appearance for the USMNT behind Freddy Adu and Steve Snow.

As for America’s other superstar, there is no timetable as to when Christian Pulisic will return from injury. The former Dortmund, now Chelsea winger sustained an adductor injury on Jan. 1 and hasn’t played since.
