The English Premier League Does The Oscars

Hollywood’s award season is wrapping up with the biggest of them all — The Oscars. Whether you are rooting for Leonardo Di Caprio to win his first or feeling nostalgic seeing Rocky Balboa, er, Sylvester Stallone, on the nominee list, people get hyped for The Oscars. Therefore, let’s give out some Oscar awards to the English Premier League.

Best Picture: Leicester City

Walt Disney would be proud because Leicester City is a true Cinderella. Everyone has been waiting for the Foxes to fall off the pace but it just hasn’t happened yet. Claudio Ranieri has his men playing with so much confidence that you’d think they are a group of movie stars. At this point, Leicester City are thinking Premier League title, not just holding on to a top-four spot.

Best Actor: Jamie Vardy

If Leicester City are winning Best Picture for their performance in Cinderella, then Jamie Vardy is wearing the glass slipper. He has taken the Premier League by storm this year and has not stopped scoring goals. He is everyone’s favorite factory worker-turned-Premier League star.

Best Supporting Actor: Mesut Ozil

Arsenal have their best chance to end their Premier League title drought this season and that is in large part thanks to the rejuvenated Mesut Ozil. The German playmaker leads the league with 17 assists, seven more than his nearest rival, Riyad Mahrez. If the Gunners are to actually leapfrog Leicester City and win the title this Spring, it will largely be on the creativity and vision of Ozil.

Best Director: Eddie Howe

Yes, Claudio Ranieri has been incredible in his Premier League return with Leicester City but Eddie Howe has to receive credit for keeping little Bournemouth out of the relegation zone. I know, there is still plenty of football yet to be played, but Bournemouth have stolen the hearts of Premier League neutrals with their fearless, attacking football. The 11,000 seat Vitality Stadium has the set for unforgettable moments during this dream season for the Cherries, namely their historic win vs. Manchester United.

Best Visual Effects: Dele Alli

Soccer is called the beautiful game for a reason. If you need evidence, look no further than Tottenham Hotspur’s 19 year old English midfielder Dele Alli and his masterpiece vs. Crystal Palace back in January.
