Besiktas Claims The Spoils In Action-Packed Istanbul Derby

In the latest edition of one of the many Istanbul derbies, Beşiktaş came out on top against rivals Fenerbahçe, 4-3.

Beşiktaş entered the game having won three of its last four, most recently defeating fellow Istanbul side Basaksehir. Sergen Yalçın's side endured an inconsistent start to the season, going four games without a win from mid-September into early October. Since then, though, it has been much improved, moving into fourth place as a result of Sunday's win.

Fenerbahçe, three points off first-placed Alanyaspor, was dealt just its second defeat of the season on Sunday. The game was lively from the beginning, with Vincent Aboubakar opening the scoring after just four minutes before doubling Beşiktaş' lead on 20 minutes. Ex-Orlando City forward Cyle Larin claimed the assist for the opener, laying it off to Aboubakar before he surged into the box and left the keeper helpless with a shot into the roof of the net.

Former Newcastle United fan favorite Papiss Cissé brought Fener back within a goal after 34 minutes with a close-range finish after a corner was headed down to him inside the six-yard box.

It looked as though Beşiktaş had run into trouble after Larin was sent off in the 50th minute, but just three minutes later center back Necip Uysal restored his team's two-goal lead with another goal just feet from the doorstep, this time a header.

Just two minutes after coming into the game as a sub, Fabrice N'Sakala sealed the victory for Beşiktaş, dispatching a perfectly-weighted cross into the box to put the visitors up 4-2.

While Ozan Tufan converted a 97th-minute penalty to bring the hosts within a goal yet again, it proved to be too little too late. Despite outshooting the visitors 18-7, Fenerbahçe was wasteful in front of goal, putting just five of those shots on target.

Yalçın's men next take on Kasimpasa, just a point below them in fifth, before a matchup with leaders Alanyaspor. Fenerbahçe, on the other hand, has 19th-placed Denizlispor next up.
