A referee in Finland’s top division blew his whistle for a call that you hardly ever see in professional soccer. It’s a rule that’s often broken but hardly ever called as the referee blew his whistle for the goalkeeper time wasting.

Eetu Huuhtanen is the goalkeeper for Finnish side Inter Turku and he was the one penalized for time wasting. Seeing goalkeepers receive yellow cards for taking too long on a goal kick is normal.

Mauro Icardi made headlines this week for all the wrong reasons when a planned penalty kick routine took a terrible turn. The Icardi penalty miss came on Tuesday during a game vs. Istanbulspor.

In the 37th minute Galatasaray had a penalty kick. Standing over the spot was Turkish forward Kerem Akturkoglu. Rather than taking the shot he sneakily tapped the ball to the side for Icardi to run up and smash home.

The plan was going great. The goalkeeper had already dived, no defenders charged for the ball and all Icardi needed to do was pass the ball into the goal.

Al Nassr secured a 3-1 victory in the Saudi Pro League on Saturday with Cristiano Ronaldo scoring a goal and taking out a cameraman in the process.

During the game Al Nassr were awarded a free kick just outside the box. Nearly all eyes in the stadium were on CR7 with the exception of the man operating the camera crane behind goal. 

Ronaldo’s kicked went past the wall, past the goalkeeper, past the goal and right into the face of the poor guy just trying to do his job.

One of the worst goals I’ve ever seen in a professional league was scored on Saturday in the Ukrainian Premier League. A comedy of errors led to what can only be described as a cataclysmic defensive failure.

The game was between Vorskla and Veres Rivne and in the 20th minute Vorskla led 2-0. They must have felt bad for their opponents or something because it’s hard to describe what went wrong on their goal kick.
