Mauro Icardi made headlines this week for all the wrong reasons when a planned penalty kick routine took a terrible turn. The Icardi penalty miss came on Tuesday during a game vs. Istanbulspor.
In the 37th minute Galatasaray had a penalty kick. Standing over the spot was Turkish forward Kerem Akturkoglu. Rather than taking the shot he sneakily tapped the ball to the side for Icardi to run up and smash home.
The plan was going great. The goalkeeper had already dived, no defenders charged for the ball and all Icardi needed to do was pass the ball into the goal.
Then this happened.

Yikes guys. Galatasaray went on to win the game 1-0 so Icardi won’t need to lose too much sleep over the penalty fail.
This move has worked in the past and most recently on a big stage when Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez pulled it off with Barcelona.
