AS Roma named their former player Daniele De Rossi as their new manager until the end of the season, hours after parting ways with manager José Mourinho on Tuesday.

Mourinho was sacked earlier in the day with Roma ninth in the league after Sunday's 3-1 loss to AC Milan, and have struggled to overcome the loss of key players due to injury, including striker Paulo Dybala.

They are 22 points behind league leaders Inter Milan.

José Mourinho couldn’t keep his perfect record in European finals intact on Wednesday as his Roma side fell to Sevilla 1-1 (4-1 on penalties) in the Europa League final.

Mourinho has now won five of the six European finals he’s managed in.

Roma opened the scoring in the 34th minute through Paulo Dybala. The Argentine was a surprise start after missing the last seven weeks with injuries, most recently an ankle issue.

AS Roma suffered a late collapse to lose 2-1 to Fiorentina on Saturday, effectively ending any hopes Jose Mourinho's side had of a top four finish in Serie A.

Roma are sixth in the standings on 60 points from 37 games. They are four points behind AC Milan in fourth, who face Juventus on Sunday. Atalanta, in fifth with 61 points, play Inter Milan later on Saturday.

Both Roma and Fiorentina began the match at a slow pace as they look forward to cup finals in Europe.

Forward Paulo Dybala could miss AS Roma's Europa League final against six-time champions Sevilla, manager José Mourinho said on Thursday.

The 29-year-old Argentine, who has scored 16 goals and has eight assists across all competitions this season, is yet to recover full fitness after picking up an ankle injury at the end of last month.
