Last summer, Manchester United broke the world-record transfer fee by signing Paul Pogba for £89.3 million. During that same window, Chelsea had a £70 million bid to resign Everton’s Romelu Lukaku turned down. With Lukaku confirming that he’s unwilling to sign an extension on an Everton contract that still has two years left to run, Lukaku will almost inevitably become the world’s most expensive transfer this summer.

The Chicago Fire have signed 32-year-old German midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger from Manchester United, handing him one of the top 10 biggest contracts in the league. Schweinsteiger could make his Chicago debut as early as April 1 against Montreal.

According to FOX Soccer, the transfer fee is around $4.5 million. Schweinsteiger joined Manchester United from Bayern Munich back in July of 2015 for almost $10 million, but he struggled to make an impact at the club under Louis van Gaal. 

Per the Chicago Tribune, Bastian Schweinsteiger is on the move to the Chicago Fire, and could join the team as early as the middle of next week.

Let me get on the record saying this is going to go terribly. The Fire are awful, and don't have the athleticism in midfield to compensate for how creaky Schweinsteiger has become. It'll be like the first year of the Andrea Pirlo NYCFC experiment, only worse.

22-year-old Joshua Kimmich is becoming frustrated by his lack of playing time at Bayern Munich under head coach Carlo Ancelotti.

After getting plenty of opportunities under Pep Guardiola, who is now the head coach of Manchester City, Kimmich has been limited to 10 Bundesliga starts this season.

Mix Diskerud may not be long for the city that never sleeps, if a poem he posted on Instagram is any indication.

At least if the whole soccer thing doesn't work out, which from the looks of the poem it might not, he'll have a future in brooding and smoking some kind of obscure, disgusting tobacco.

The offseason purchases of Mirlalem Pjanic from Roma (€32 million) and Gonzalo Higuain from Napoli (€75.3 million) haven’t debilitated the selling clubs, but they have had the desired effect for Juventus. Higuain has scored 19 goals, tied with Edin Dzeko for the most in the league, and no Juventus player has more assists than Pjanic.

Even more importantly, Napoli, the team that ran them closest last season, will come short of last season’s total of 82 points while Juventus look poised to surpass their own total of 91. There’s no surer gauge of the impact of that transfer.
