No se puede negar, la relación entre la Selección Mexicana y los aficionados está hecha pedazos. Las cosas hace rato que vienen tensas, pero en el último duelo ante Jamaica por la Nations League, el quiebre fue más evidente que nunca y se expresó con una serie de abucheos a varios jugadores del Tri, entre ellos el histórico Guillermo Ochoa, el lateral Jorge Sánchez, el desesperante Diego Lainez y el (ex) goleador Raúl Jiménez.

The former Barcelona and Arsenal star is having a magnificent season with Olympique de Marseille in Ligue 1 and still dripping some class for the Chilean national team. In fact, the 34-year-old had a phenomenal performance in Chile's 3-2 win over Paraguay in a friendly played Monday night, scoring a brace.

One of those goals was a rather weird olímpico. 

In an unexpected twist, Julie Ertz was named on the 26-player roster for the United States women’s national team’s pair of friendly games vs. Ireland in early April. If Ertz appears in either game, it will be her first appearance for club or country since the bronze medal match in the Tokyo Olympics on Aug. 5, 2021.

Ertz has been away from the game for over a year and a half due to injuries and the birth of her child, Madden, in August 2022.

The USMNT got the job done Monday night by beating El Salvador 1-0 at Exploria Stadium to advance to this summer's CONCACAF Nations League Finals in Las Vegas. 

The Americans needed only a draw to make it happen, and everyone at home probably would've agreed to that after a scoreless opening 45 that was painful to watch. USMNT wordsmith Anthony Hudson called it "a little bit too transitiony." The highlight was La Selecta fans starting an "olé!" chant after stringing together a couple passes, only for a guy to pass it straight to Daryl Dike. 

Placed in the UEFA Euro 2024 qualifying group of death with France, the Netherlands and Greece, Ireland's only hope of reaching Germany was protecting Dublin against all invaders. 

Up first on Monday night was a visit from the World Cup runners-up, France, who'd just blasted the Dutch 4-0 in Paris to kick-off their own campaign.  

Históricamente, el Estadio Azteca ha sido un infierno para las selecciones que la visitan. De un tiempo a esta parte, sin embargo, también se ha convertido en territorio hostil para los propios jugadores de la Selección Mexicana.

Poco a poco, incluso, se impone el discurso de que el Azteca no genera miedo en los rivales, pero sí muchísima presión entre los futbolistas del Tri. Hay una negatividad que flota en el aire, que ha sido apuntada por varios referentes del combinado nacional y que quedó de manifiesto más que nunca en el pobre empate 2-2 conseguido ante Jamaica.

On Sunday night in CONCACAF Nations League play at the Azteca, the Reggae Boyz attempted a similar strategy against Mexico through Bobby Decordova-Reid. In the seventh-minute, the Fulham forward opened the scoring with a half-volley from the heavens.

Cambia, todo cambia. Diego Cocca dirigirá ante Jamaica su primer partido al mando de la Selección Mexicana en el Estadio Azteca y lo hará con un 11 completamente diferente al que alineó en la victoria 2-0 sobre Surinam, ocurrida el jueves pasado. 

El equipo que saltará al campo está básicamente compuesto por los jugadores que no viajaron a Sudamérica, con excepción de Raúl Jiménez, quien se quedará en el banco de suplentes.
