America is on one of their biggest soccer highs ever after watching its women take home the World Cup from Canada 2015, and now hopefully that momentum is being shifted over to the men as they prepare to take on Honduras in the Gold Cup opener. 

The tournament lasts from July 7th to July 26th, with the group stage taking place over eight days in which each nation will play three games. The USA have an emphatic 28-1-2 record since the inaugural match in 1991, and look to extend that record even further in order to become the team to fear in July. 

And you thought Mexico's summer coudn't get any worse.

Tuesday, in a Gold Cup warm-up against Honduras, Mexico forward Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez went down with a broken collarbone. 

Hernandez will be out for about four weeks and will probably miss the whole Gold Cup.

With the Copa America and the Gold Cup coming up this summer, Miguel “El Piojo” Herrera managed to take some time away from his commitments with the national team to voice his thoughts on Mexico’s upcoming elections.

The Mexican Soccer Federation is investigating whether or not Herrera violated any policies involved with the national team.

Having announced a second tier, yet competitive, squad to represent Mexico at the Copa America, Miguel Herrera made it known that Mexico’s priority is the Gold Cup.

The Dos a Cero loss to the United States must have encouraged Herrera to choose his strongest side for the CONCACAF tournament. Losing to your greatest rival is never an easy pill to swallow, especially before a high-stakes tournament like the Gold Cup.

Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez has been lighting up La Liga and the Champions League recently, with clutch performances in must-win games for Real Madrid. Not only have Real Madrid players, fans and Ancelloti been praising the Mexican star but Mexico’s head coach recently described CH14 as “world-class.” Making us wonder where will world-class Chicharito slot into his plans over the summer? Will Miguel “El Piojo” Herrera unleash him at the Gold Cup? Especially with the “Dos a Cero” result against the U.S.A. still etched into the minds of Mexican fans and players.

Fans were skeptical of Miguel Herrera’s decision to field an altered team in Mexico’s second match of 2015, but no one raised an eyebrow after Eduardo “Lalo” Herrera volleyed in Mexico’s only goal against Paraguay in the 2nd minute of the match. It was E. Herrera’s first time wearing the Mexico shirt, showing that Mexico has talent to spare in Liga MX and abroad.

The Mexican national team takes on the United States national team next week in what will be anything but a friendly match. The two teams are bitter rivals who constantly battle for regional dominance, with Mexico usually at the winning end between the two. The two sides will meet in San Antonio in preparation for this summer’s busy international schedule. Mexico will be looking to continue their 2015 undefeated streak, having won against Ecuador and Paraguay in the most recent international break.

After bringing so much hope and drive to his position as head coach of the Blue Samurai of Japan, Javier Aguirre has fallen from grace. El Vasco proved a trailblazer for Mexicans coaching abroad at the highest level. He has had opportunities at Osasuna, Atletico Madrid, Real Zaragoza, and Espanyol, with his time with Zaragoza creating a scandal that has plagued him since he traded the beautiful coast of Spain for the island nation of Japan. He’s not a coach to shy away from a battle.

Miguel Herrera has already stated that he expects big things from Mexico this summer. As in winning the Gold Cup and Copa América big. If he does plan on pulling off that impressive double, he’ll need all the talent he can get his hands on. And if his most recent call-ups are anything to go by, then it seems he plans on relying heavily on those currently plying their trade in Europe.
