Tigers kick-started their 2016 Liga MX Apertura campaign with a fantastic 3-0 victory over Club America at the Azteca Stadium. Javier Aquino scored an unbelievable goal in the 38th minute, Andre-Pierre Gignac added another with a sublime chip in the 59th and Ismael Sosa delivered the final nail in the coffin in the final moments of the match.

With America entering the match undefeated and Tigres having to settle for two opening draws, the visitors closed the gap between the sides to a single point.

French striker Andre-Pierre Gignac has had a very good time in Mexico while playing for Tigres, and it looks like his tenure has drawn the eyes of some of his compatriots. It's been reported that Tigres are now interested in signing Caen striker Andy Delort to join his countryman in the attack.

Having played for Mexico at the 2015 U-20 World Cup in New Zealand and having smoothly transitioned from Queretaro to Chivas in Liga MX, it was widely reported that Orbelin Pineda would make the natural progression to El Tri’s U-23 setup for the Olympic Games. Andre-Pierre Gignac burst onto footballing radars everywhere by finishing the 2008-09 French Ligue 1 season as the top goalscorer. At the time, the young Frenchman was reportedly drawing interest from clubs like Arsenal, Manchester United and Juventus.

Fast forward seven years and the now 30-year-old Gignac plays his club football with Tigres in Monterrey, Mexico. Is this a story of lost talent, a young player who achieved too much, too fast? Hardly.

Miguel Herrera's tenure at Club Tijuana has not gone to plan so far, but as usual "El Piojo" has found a way to capture our attention.

Club Tijuana finished 14th in the 2016 Clausura, and that, evidently, was not good enough for management. You hear of clubs needing offseason "overhauls" but we've never seen it taken quite this far: Tijuana have transfer-listed every single player on the roster.

Pachuca are the 2016 Clausura champs, having defeated Monterrey 2-1 on aggregate over the final's two legs. Los Tuzos won the home leg, 1-0, but they needed a little magic at the end of the second leg to claim the trophy.

Sunday's second leg in Monterrey got really interesting when Dorlan Pabon scored a golazo in the 39th minute to give Monterrey a 1-0 lead in the match and even the score on aggregate.

Pachuca beat Monterrey 1-0 in the first leg of the Clausura final yesterday at Estadio Hidalgo vid Francisco Jara's 61st minute diving header that found the top corner of the net.
