Is there anything more dramatic in the sport of soccer than a direct free kick? The referee marching off the ten yards, exuberantly laying down the vanishing spray while the entire stadium holds its collective breath, anticipating the immaculate strike. Step forward the dead ball specialist.

But who is the best in the world? Who, after going through the melodrama of scrutinizing the stationary ball and plastering their facial features with the look of ingrained concentration, actually sticks the ball in the back of the net with some regularity?

Chicharito has been going off lately. He had a brace in Bayer Leverkusen's draw against Roma in the Champions League last week, scored again in the Bundesliga this weekend, and now he's gone and done it again with a brace in Bayer's German Cup game.

The weekend TV schedule in store for soccer fans this weekend is full of intrigue in the Premier League and Serie A.

A phantom goal sounds like a power up in Mario Soccer (or should I say Super Mario Strikers), as in it sounds like the ball turned into some sort of ghost and diffused into the back of the net. It sounds pretty sweet, really, but sadly there are no ghosts involved in this real life phantom goal. 

It was scored by Bayer Leverkusen’s Stefan Kiessling against Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga, and while there are no ghosts, it certainly seems to defy explanation at first. 

It is still early in the season, but it is easy to say that Thomas Tuchel is working some magic in Dortmund.

The former Mainz manager arrived at the Signal Iduna Park with the difficult task of filling in the shoes of a legend like Jurgen Klopp. Yet, with an entertaining and involving approach, Tuchel has managed to lead Dortmund to a better start in the Bundesliga than Klopp did in 2011-12 when they were crowned Bundesliga champions.

Karl-Heinz Rummenigge turned 60 Friday. Rummenigge was Germany's National Team Captain and is currently the president of Bayern Munich.

The striker played three World Cups in a row (1978, 1982 and 1986), making it to the final in both the 18982 and 1986 cups.

Rummenigge was born in Lippstadt. At 19, Bayern Munich signed him and he became a full-time professional footballer. Previously, he shared soccer and his cashier job at a bank.

Chicharito Hernandez has opened his Bundesliga account. The Mexican striker scored his second goal for Bayer Leverkusen (he got his first in the Champions League last week) against Mainz Wednesday.
